Court (Royal)
The court of a monarch, or at some periods an important nobleman, is a term for the extended household and all those who regularly attended on the ruler or central figure.
Members of the court
Many officials or servants in the permanent employ of the ruler
People attending in hope of political or financial gain, or merely for the society and entertainments offered.
Masque(the Court Masque)
a form of festive courtly entertainment which flourished in sixteenth and early seventeenth century Europe
Origin
Developed earlier in Italy, in forms including the ‘Intermedio’
A Genre stemmed out of various court entertainments and folk customs
Development (Briefly)
Well developed during the reigns of the Tudor and Stuart Monarchs
Became obsolete during the British Civil War
