This book is the culmination of six years of my research, field study, and personal experience on the subject of the nighttime tour named Moonlight Tour of Changdeokgung Palace. While working as a tour guide at the royal palace, I gave many tours for locals and global tourists and met lots of people who were interested in Korean royal palaces, and traditional Korean culture.
I found that there were many questions tourists wanted to know about the past of Korea. For instance, North and South American tourists asked me about how Joseon dynasty could last for over five hundred years. European visitors wanted to know that Korea still has the royal family members. Asian tourists were curious about why all the name plaques are in traditional Chinese characters though Koreans use the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. African visitors asked me why Seoul has five royal palaces.
The more I had the questions, the more I wanted to write books to introduce the palaces. As a result, I have published the book to share many interesting stories and facts about Changdeokgung Palace with you. I hope this book would be your guide for the journey to the moonlit palace. And I will introduce other palaces on my book series as soon as possible.
