Hello, my name is kim, and I am living in Jung-an-dong, Jinju. I recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Lunar New Year event held at the National Jinju Museum, where I experienced various traditional activities and cultural displays related to the Korean holiday of Seollal.
The event was filled with engaging and traditional games such as yut-nori (a traditional board game played with sticks), jegi-chagi (a game played with a shuttlecock), spinning a top called 'gulreongsoe,' and pitching arrows with a small, traditional bow called 'tuho.' Alongside these games, I had the chance to explore replicas of the 'Twelve Guardians' (representing the twelve animals of the Korean zodiac) and gained insight into their significance in Korean folklore and culture.
One of the highlights was the hands-on experience of making and tasting tteok (rice cakes). It was fascinating to learn about the traditional process of making this special treat that is a significant part of the Lunar New Year celebrations.
Moreover, I had the opportunity to watch animated presentations depicting historical events such as the Battle of Jinju and the Battle of Myeongnyang. These depictions, particularly those at Jinjuseong Fortress, left a profound impression on me. Witnessing the valor of General Kim Si-min, who bravely fought against the Japanese army at Jinjuseong Fortress, and admiring the strategic brilliance of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who triumphed with only 12 ships against a massive Japanese fleet at the Battle of Myeongnyang, filled me with awe and respect for these historical figures.
The courage and wisdom displayed by these historical figures were truly inspiring, and it made me appreciate the rich history and cultural heritage of Korea.
Attending this event has sparked my interest even more in traditional Korean celebrations and historical events. I am already looking forward to attending similar cultural events during the Chuseok holiday. These experiences have encouraged me to explore and appreciate the heritage and traditions of my country.
In conclusion, my visit to the National Jinju Museum during the Lunar New Year celebration was an enlightening and enriching experience, allowing me to connect with and appreciate the traditions and history that make our culture so vibrant and unique. I'm eager to continue exploring and learning more about our rich cultural heritage in the future.
