in Global Market
Wal-Mart has become the world's largest retailer, managing multiple branches in different countries. Wal-Mart still continues to extend the scope of its network toward foreign markets. Compared to the successful retailer, Sears ― which sustained its influential power in the U.S. market nearly a hundred-year earlier than Wal-Mart ― tumbled down in the contemporary global market. By examining individual both advantageous and disadvantageous aspects, it could be possible to aware of how to manage companies in a better and successful way.
Introduction to Wal-Mart
On October 31, 1969, Wal-Mart was incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. In 1970, the business opened its headquarter which was also responsible for distributing merchandise in Bentonville, Arkansas. At that time, 38 stores were operated with 1,500 employees and sales of $44.2 million across the nation. It began trading stock on October 1, 1970, and soon after the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Wal-Mart’s strategy intended to build large discount stores in small rural towns. However, other competitors in retail industry such as K-Mart targeted towns where population exceeds 50,000. In September 2007, Wal-Mart converted its slogan to "Save Money. Live Better." Wal-Mart's slogan for 19 years had been "Always Low Prices."
