His major works are The Fall of the House of Usher, The Raven and The Black Cat. Poe and his works had a great influence not only on American Literature but also all over the world.


This story has a duplicate plot.

The Minister D stole the important letter (the purloined letter)
→ D(Dupin) stole it again from the minister D

1 . At the beginnig of the story, readers could know the suspect, minister D, who stole the letter.
2. At the development of the story, detective G mistook not to consider the suspect's character. He perfectly investigated where the letter could be located.
3. At the summit of the story, D used human psychology for solving the problem.
4. At the end of the story, D stole the purloined letter from the minister D and left another letter as the minister D had done because It was for perfectly removing minister D's political power.
1. The possession of letter. 
The position of characters in triangle is changed by the man who possess the letter .
The thing that puts spurs to the letter is not letter's content but possession.
2. The meaning of the letter : the factor of structuring people's relationship.
