Research Purpose/Aim

II.1 Why we selected mountain tourism?
As we said in our previous pages, in Korea, there are a lot of mountains. Almost every town has their mountain. Mountain related a local people from old time and familiar with local people. So, Although Korean Mountains are not for professional climber, we thought Mountain tourism is important in Korea.
Based on our purpose to observe and analysis about mountain tourism, we can explain that Mountain tourism can be defined two things like embodied tourism and tourism of nature.

"Climbing is embodied activities in association with nature that appeal to contemporary cultures. In many ways, climbing and mountaineering ( the activities, experiences and organisation) are seen as model ways of interacting with the natural world and are promoted eagerly." (Course book, Ch.8 Tourisms of body and nature. p. 237)

Also, in other articles we find an explanation about nature tourism:

"Nature tourism's purist form is environmental tourism where varied aspects of the land, sea, and sky perform their magical works of renewal- it's the "pure" air, the soothing waters or the vast vistas that are curative. recently, Environmental tourism has bifurcated into Ecological tourism wherein the tourist tries to leave as little effect from his visit as possible- concentrating perhaps on photographs and tape recordings. The approach to nature through using of nature for her specified attributes of sun (tanning), wind (sailing), snow(skiing), surf(fishing), and sky (gliding) is Recreational tourism." ( From course book, Hosts and Guests, Ch.1. Tourism and leisure: a Theoretical overview pp. 31-32)

So we can see a character of Mountain tourism on the text theory. It is ecotourism and it is basically alternative tourism which is sustainable. But it is not just a tourist object from social awakening in environmental pollution but also it is just typical tourism for people’s happiness.

II.2 What is our focus?
Our basic question is " Why people climb mountain?"
So, we want to find diverse motivation of mountain tourism. We thought mountain has a lot of attractions so we could predict a lot of reasons. Firstly, we thought that people can feel diverse sense from mountain. There are four season in Korea, so mountain change their color. For example, people go to mountain for flower tour in spring and go to mountain for seeing autumn color.
Secondly, each mountain has character. For example, one has a lot of rocks and others have a lot easy course. So Diverse scenery has its own appeal and people sense a lot of thing.
Thirdly, people want to see special object on the mountain. In Korea, there are a lot of temples in the top of mountain. Whether they believe or not in Buddhism, some of them still want to see Buddhist temple.
