Informal interview
Casual Friends to Friends talk
Having a conversation with friends from Gyeongsang province, whom we already know. Asking Questions that can make them use distinctive dialectic features.
Formal interview
Right after informal interview, the interviewer (a friend to the interviewee) asks the interviewees to participate in the interviewee conducted by one of the group member, whom the interviewee has never met. Also, we use the prepared questions.
Asking interviewees for answering in low forms of speech (반말)
*We consider formality as solidarity.
Two forms of style-shifting:
From 경상 dialect to standard variety
From 반말 to 존댓말
Style-shifting: a linguistic performance mixed with consciousness (multiple identity, formality) and unconsciousness (Gender, formality)
The reason why the difference in the length of their residence in Seoul does not show any relation with the standardization
- Maybe a weak factor compared to other factors
Interviewee’s gender: females are more sensitive to social concept
Formality: consider dialect as an inferior concept
