Introduction

1. How did we select our topic.
Although we admit that it is quite a complicated subject, our group selected the “Legalization of homosexual marriage” issue for discussion topic. While we brainstormed about the topic, many subjects such as Cosmetic surgery or Smoking/Drinking came out but we decided it based on these 3 main standards.
1) Should be a sensitive issue which can induce students to divide into Pros and Cons so that we could have active discussion.
2) Should be a hot issue in our society so that we could easily find various materials and think about the topic deeply.
3) Should be able to cause student’s logical thinking not personal preference

2. How we led the discussion in class.
Our group agreed that we don’t have much time for everyone to share their ideas if the whole class becomes a group. Moreover, we observed from last discussion that the debate became concentrated to some students who were active. Consequently there were some other people who didn’t make many statements. To solve these problems, we’ve decided to divide students into two groups so that more people have opportunities to share their ideas. In this way, students would feel more comfortable to speak with their small group than in front of a whole class. After each group finishes we wanted to share what each group had talked about, but unfortunately we couldn’t because of limited time.
