Eighty carpenters, specialized in ancient architecture, gathered from across the country to work on the project. It is the largest mobilization of specialized carpenters ever since the restoration of the Gyeongbok Palace. The Ragung bears special significance, as it is the first ever attempt to restore the legacy of the past for commercial purposes. It is a “modernization of tradition,” through which traditional houses are recreated for commercial applications. In particular, the modern, modular design made it possible to complete the construction from timber trimming to putting up the ridge beam in just 100 days. This cost-saving method is expected to contribute to the proliferation of traditional type of housing. It is also the first time that an outdoor hot spring has been incorporated into the inner court of a traditional Korean house. As soon as you enter the gate, you will feel like a king. The Ragung is a place for rest as well as to dwell in history, creating new values for the word, “rest.” No doubt, the Ragung is the first architectural attempt to introduce hot springs to a traditional Korean house and has become the new standard for Korea’s deluxe hotels.
