.뇌 연구의 필요성

인류문명의 발달에 가장 큰 영향을 끼친 인간의 두뇌는 과학이 발달하면서 인류의 최대 관심 중에 하나가 되었다. 또한 과학자들은 인간의 두뇌에 있는 능력들이 대뇌피질에 기인한다는 점에 동의하고 있다. 인간이 말하는 능력이나 문자 언어를 사용하는 능력은 대뇌피질에서 비롯된 것이며 그러한 능력은 인간을 다른 동물과 구분 짖고 있다. 인간은 이러한 능력들을 토대로 사고, 관찰, 분석 및 포괄적인 문제해결능력을 발휘하여 앞날을 계획하고 미래를 예측한다. (리더스 다이제스트, 1993)
이렇게 뇌 연구가 급속하게 진전 되면서 아동의 행동이나 정서적인 문제를 뇌와 연관 지어 연구하게 되었고, 과학적이고 신뢰적인 측면에서 뇌와 연관 지어 아동의 심리를 분석하거나 치료 자료로 활용하고 있다. 그러므로 뇌 부위에 특징이 아동과 어떤 연관성이 있는지 살펴볼 필요가 있다.
1) 뇌의 발달단계
대뇌피질의 반구 중앙에는 세로에 중심구가 있고 옆에는 외측구가 있다. 이 두 구를 기준으로 각 반구를 네 영역으로 나누어 전두엽, 두정엽, 측두엽, 후두엽이라고 한다.
인간의 뇌는 3-6세 사이에 전두엽 부위의 신경세포가 가장 왕성하게 활성화되고, 7-12세 사이에 두정엽과 측두엽 부위, 12세 이후에는 후두엽 부위가 활성화된다고 하였다.
