Throughout the course of the novel, Gulliver finds himself in four different lands: Lilliput, a land of tiny people; Brobdingnag, a land of giants; Laputa, a land of intellectuals; and the land of the Houyhnhnms, a race of intelligent horses who rule over a race of savage humans called the Yahoos.
Through these travels, Swift uses satire to comment on the social and political issues of his time, such as corruption, hypocrisy, and the abuse of power. He does this by using these strange and fantastic lands as metaphors for the flaws of human society. For example, in Lilliput, the tiny people are so consumed with petty disputes that they are unable to see the bigger picture, while in Brobdingnag, the giants are wise and kind, but also vulnerable to the machinations of unscrupulous people.
