There are four basic Leadership styles involve with a leader. Those are Autocratic leadership, Democratic leadership, Laissez-faire leadership and Bureaucratic Leadership. By examine these styles we can use them where necessary rather than adapted to one style.
Autocratic Leadership style
• Classical approach
• Manager retains as much power and decision making authority as possible.
• Does not consults staff and nor allow to give any input
• Staff excepted to obey orders without receiving any explanations
• Structured set of rewards and punishments
This is the most effective style to use when
• New, untrained staffs do not know which task to perform or which procedure to follow.
• Limited time in which to make decisions
• A manager’s power challenged by staff
• Staff do not responds to any other leadership style
Bureaucratic Leadership Style
• Manager “by the book”
• Every thing done according to the procedure or policy
• Enforce the rules
This is the most effective style to use when,
• Safety and security training conducted
• Staff performing tasks that require handling cash
• Staff need to understand certain standards and procedures
• Staff performing routing task over and over
