1. Assistive Technology?
This is any tool that helps a student with a disability perform a functional task more successfully. The term 'assistive technology' refers to 'any device or system that allows an individual to perform a task that they would otherwise be unable to do, or increases the ease and safety with which the task can be performed'. This includes equipment and devices to help people who have problems with speaking/ hearing/eyesight/moving about/memory/cognition.
Assistive technology ranges from very simple tools, such as calendar clocks and touch lamps, to high-tech solutions such as satellite navigation systems to help find someone who has got lost.

2. What are assistive technology devices?
The term “assistive technology device” means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of children with disabilities. And these are the tools that are provided by the school district when assistive technology serveices are required in an IEP.

3. What are assistive technology services?
The term “assistive technology service” means any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device.

4. Why is assistive technology needed?
The reason assistive technology needed is First, to help students meet all their difficulties. Second, to aide in student's goals outlined in their IEP and assist with overcoming difficulties of meeting targeted goal. For every child who has an IEP, that child should also have an Assistive Technology Evaluation to help him or her meet all their difficulties. Third, to provide the best opportunity for all individuals to grow within his or her naturally environment. Finally, to assist students with the most equal chance to understand curriculum requirement.
