BIOGRAPHY

In 1875, he visited Italy and was deeply impressed by Michelangelo.

In 1878, he came back to Paris with his artwork: The Age
of Bronze.

In 1880, The Age of Bronze won the 3rd prize from the Salon, so French government bought this artwork.

Simultaneously, he was requested to make a monumental artwork: The Gates of Hell by Musée des arts Decoratifs.

Almost of his famous artworks: The Thinker, The burghers of Calais, Monument to Balzac were made in this period.

In 1917, he donated his all artworks to French government, and he passed away.

He died in Nov. 17th, 1917 in his age of 77.
