본문내용
• The office building for the Werkbund exhibition at Cologne of 1914
• This building also used glass in a novel way and boasted
completely glazed stair towers
• These examples indicate the areas where the decisive
skillls of Gropius and Meyer lay
• The workshop at the Bauhaus is an obvious descendent of the Fagus factory

6. Bauhaus building
• A detail which completely gives the game away is the step in both plan and section to the front glazing of the bridge. Unlike other blocks vertical columns here exists no column. These could be the visual refinement of this building.

IV. The articulation of parts
1. Composition of the buildings
- Certainly the workshops are glazed like a factory hall,
- The classroom block is identifiable through its horizontal strip of glazing.
- The residential block can be identified by its separate windows and balconies.
- Beyond this basic differentiation, however, the building is very generalized and dominated, like Gropius’s Weissenhof houses, by its construction grid.

2. Hiding
- Similarly the offices and classrooms lie behind un-distinguished horizontal glazing which hidesthe intervening partitions.
- Even the corner library at first floor north-east is treatedas a completely standard room, unrecognizable from without.

3. Moving elements
- The moving elements are not consistently expressed either: much was made of the main stairs.
- But the staircase on the south end is completely hidden behind the wall which bears the title ‘Bauhaus’.
