Firstly, a water purification system using gravel contact oxidation process was installed to clean the water. The system located in Young-dong 2 gyo was the first to utilize the gravel contact oxidation process in Korea. It uses a media like gravel and artificially maximize the natural purification process like precipitation, absorption and decomposition by increasing the contacting area between water and gravel and oxidation process by the microorganisms stuck on the media. It resolves the pollutant into water and carbon dioxide gas and thus makes the stream water clean. The facility, which has a capacity of 32000t/day, was installed to clean the upstream water to improve the water quality in Yangjae stream. Due to the system, the water quality improved from level 5 to level 2~3 and this plays an important role in restoring the ecosystem.
Secondly, vegetation revetment technique was used to make close-to-nature river bank. Concrete was removed from the shore and riverbank and stones, trees and other plants replaced the place instead.
Thirdly, pool and riffle are constructed considering the original slope and flow. Riffle was made of gravels, therefore not settled successfully. Stepping stones installed in several place also function like riffle.
Lastly, a riverside wetland was constructed in the stream. It was supposed to be a site for removing pollutants and controlling water flow like other wetlands but destructed after some flood.
