The Chinese art I chose, Bodhisattva, has a size of about two feet tall and six inches wide. It is made of limestone which was considered in ancient China as a material that is above wood or earthenware, but not as precious as jade or bronze. I believe the art was made of limestone in order for it to last longer than wood or earthenware, providing protection to pertain its exact form. Plus, it would’ve been harder for a craftsman to shape all those curvy features that the art has if he or she used bronze. However, one will notice that parts of head, right arm and left hand are broken. These parts are especially easy to be broken because they are small pieces that were connected to the main body, and the connection can be disconnected easily by exterior forces such as being dropped.
