However, its first attempt was not successful because the corporation's managers could not comprehend the rationale of the solution developed by their research team, and the solution not be implemented to the packaging line due to failure in taking Walmart's constraints in resources into account appropriately. Thus, the research was once again assigned to a different team to conduct.
The main point of the research is to find the optimized number of carton sizes that can minimize the total order-fulfillment cost while keeping the operational efficiency. The team took communication, observation, data collection and analysis, and heuristics as its main approaches for the project.
