Introduction
Purpose and Rationale
Public speaking is a very important skill in the modern world. Being comfortable presenting in front of people is a crucial skill in the work environment. It is also one of the most common social phobias. Some may present physical symptoms such as racing heart, blushing, shaking voice, and shortness of breath. Others may not exert extreme physical symptoms, however would greatly appreciate a place to practice speaking in front of an audience, knowledge of coping strategies, and a place to open up and share about one’s fear of public speaking. It is not enough that Universities require presentations. Students should be provided programs to learn and improve their public speaking skills, and this group attempts to achieve just that by utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) tries to change people's thinking to help manage and treat a problem they might be having. This therapy has been empirically supported through many researches (M. L. Smith, Glass, & Miller, 1980 ; Hollon & Beck, 1994 ; 2004). It is the most effective therapy among all psychological intervention therapies.
CBT play the social learning theory role. Psychological therapy is learning situation. The problem solving approach is a useful way to looking the hardest point about the patient. Facilitator helps patient learn about satisfying and productive actions. It is need to change unrealistic wishes. In therapy situations, patient have to learn about feelings, wishes, motivations, and needs for other people. Therapy is a part of social interactions.
