When Hosting Indians, it is manner to sit right to the left. Seat arrangement follow the order in oldest to youngest. Children should sit away from elders. Before the meal, cleaning both hands is required, because Indian use fingers to eat meals. In case the food is hot, using wood spoon is allowed. And they use right hand only in dining.
When the host give the first offer, politely turning down is preferred. You will be asked again and again. Saying no to the first invitation is part of the protocol. Speaking is not recommended when dining time. So speak after gargling. And most importantly, do not leave the table until others have finished or the host requests you.
During the business meeting, but formal clothing or traditional dresses for both men & women are required, and because of the laid back attitude confirming your appointment is suggested as they do get cancelled at short notice. In public during the discussion, saying ‘no’ directly, is impolite. Indians do not like to express ‘no’. This behavior should not be considered dishonest.
