The most recent ‘fumble’ by the MB administration had been the sinking of the Korean navy ship “Cheonan,” and we had recently learned in class about the rally effect in the media in times of national crisis.We noticed a rift dividing the news tone of Korea’s major traditional news providers, well-known for their conservative, hence government-friendly tendencies, and public opinion as we witnessed in daily life.

This non-MB-friendly public opinion was seldom to be seen in mainstream news. So we looked to SNS, such as Twitter, but for practical reasons we switched to blogs. Some preliminary research showed us that indeed presidential approval ratings following the Cheonan incident rose, whereas the general mood of the blogosphere was extremely against MB. However one needs to consider the rally effect here. So…
