Ubiquitous 는 라틴어로 ‘ 언제 어디서나, ‘동시에 존재한다’ 라는 뜻.
즉, 유비쿼터스라는 것은 지금처럼 사람이 컴퓨터에 다가가는 것이
아니라 컴퓨터가 사람에게 다가와 언제 어디서나 존재한다는 의미.
사용자가 장소와 시간, 네트워크나 컴퓨터의 종류에 구애받지 않고 자유롭게 인터넷 및 멀티미디어 서비스에 접속할 수 있는 환경이 구축되는 시대.
Wearable computer는 일반적으로 ‘입는 컴퓨터’로 해석. 정말 온몸으로
입는 컴퓨터를 상상하게 만드는 데 이것은 wearable이라는 단어가 가지는 1차
적 의미에 생겨난 것이다.
Wear 이라는 단어가 “ 입다, 신다, 쓰다, 끼다, 휴대하다 “ 등등의 뜻.
‘ 입는 컴퓨터’ ‘착용 컴퓨터’ 로 인지하는 것이 더 바람직함.
wearable computer는 인간이 하나의 기계를 통해서 컴퓨팅을 하는 것이 아니
라 모든 신체로서 컴퓨팅을 하게 된다는 획기적인 변화를 상징.
