4- Antecedent conditions of the Asiana’s conflicts
Before we deal with the conflicts of Asiana Airlines, it is necessary to identify some conditions that create opportunities for conflict to arise. As we know through the textbook, there are generally three conditions; communication, structure, and personal variables. If one of those conditions is fulfilled, the possibility of arising conflict becomes high.
Let’s look at the communication condition first. Actually, there were not any problems in communication between the labor union and the company because the CEO focused on the relationship between labor and management. He made some internal communication channels. For example, he started ‘the patrol meeting’; the CEO used this meeting to explain to his employees about the current state and the result of the company. He also used ‘open plaza’, in which allowed employees to submit some proposals after various employees discussed freely. By using them, the labor union did not ask the management unreasonable demands, and the labor union declared that they were not going to make trouble. However, it was not easy to reconcile requirements of the labor union such as shorter flying hours and more salaries with the position of the management
