1. Introduction. Concept of O.C.
What is organizational culture?
Organizational culture is a complex body of value, belief, and thought that are shared by the members within organization. There are certain factors that affect this organizational culture. Those factors are sociocultural standard of the place where organization operates, ideology and strategy of the top manager, and special characteristics of the members. This organizational culture can be divided into two parts, a dominant culture and subculture. A dominant culture basically refers to the core values that are shared by the majority of its members, showing the distinct characteristics of the organization. Subculture is said to be a culture that are shared by a smaller group of people. Obviously, all organization is divided into many smaller bureaus and departments, and these different departments carry out different tasks. These different tasks lead to a development of unique subculture.
What is the function of organizational culture?
First of all, it differentiates one organization from another. Secondly, it provides an organizational identity to its members. Thirdly, it generates a collective commitment to its members. Fourthly, it enhances the stability of the social system. Finally, it builds up the attitudes and behavior of its members.
