National Health Insurance(NHI) in Korea is the mandatory
health Insurance

NHI is managed by National Health Insurance Corporation
under the supervision of the Korean Ministry of Health & Welfare

1. Employee Insured
2. Self-employed Insured

The National Health Insurance aims to
1. Share the burden among the insured persons
2. Provide medical services

(chairman, three standing executive directors, and 12 non-standing directors)

Financial planning
Preparation of the budget draft and closing accounts
Decision to purchase and dispose of assets

the NHIC

National Health Insurance Contribution & Benefits
Contribution
The payment of contributions is the responsibility of employers and
all members of households


The contribution of employee insured is based on salary of the insured
The contribution of the employee insured is borne by both the employee and the employer
Monthly contribution = average monthly salary × contribution rate(5.08%)



For the self-employed insured, the contributions are calculated by using
a formula in which the insured person’s properties, income, motor vehicles,
age, and gender are taken into consideration
Monthly contribution = contribution points × value per point(148.9won)
