On the other hand, Jeffrey Wigand, A devoted family man who must sign a confidentiality agreement in order to receive a settlement and continuous benefits, the unprepossessing Wigand initially resists Bergman's request to help him decipher some tobacco-related documents(which was delivered to Bergman's house). But Wigand has a strong stubborn streak and a sense of what's right that springs out of him at unexpected moments; despite his need to support his wife and two school-age daughters, he initially tells his former boss to shove it when asked to agree to an expanded confidentiality pact, only to backtrack later on.
But until then, the secret has not been discovered, and Bergman, a scarcely reformed radical journalist feels the unexpected reaction from Wigand. At that time, he keeps after the man he knows can blow the lid off the deceptions of "the seven dwarfs," the heads of the seven major tobacco companies who, with their most sincere poker faces, have denied to a congressional committee that smoking poses any health risks.
- Relationship between an informant and a news maker
In the nature of Investigative journalism, Whistle-blowers or Informers are most important sources to progress the news. and also making credibility to each other can make a good solution of improving good article. Bergman tries to get a credibility from Wigand who can be a whistle-blower of massive secret of national health. Finally, Wigand decided to reveal the secret of B&W in front of the camera. In the end, Bergman get a Wigand's reputation.
