2. The Ways LG Ought to Take to Survive
The company we analyzed is LG, which used to be a leader in the feature-phone market, but did not rank even 5th of the smart-phone market. At the end of 2010, this company’s market share of smart-phone market was about 5.78%. We can say that there were several reasons of stagnation.
First of all, as we mentioned, LG led the feature-phone market so that it stuck to it. It invested more at feature phone’s R&D rather than smart phone even until recently. As a result its smart phone investment was lagged behind. We can see this phenomenon in its sales which consist of smart phone by 50%.
Secondly, the OS which LG internally decided to use first was WM7. LG trusted MS will launch WM7 in the near future so it did not develop its own OS. But the launch of WM7 was delayed, so LG had no choice but to postpone its plan.
