Ⅰ. What Is Weapon Focus Effect?

The “weapon focus” effect is that the presence of a visible weapon in the hands of a perpetrator impairs witnesses' ability to remember accurate information about the perpetrator's appearance, including his or her physical features and clothing. Weapon focus effect theory is based on the cognitive reponses of people-where they see, how long their eyes are focused on the weapon- when they are threatened. Under the circumstances in which emotional tension and the uprush of fear occur, people tend to see the causes of that feelings. In the criminal scene, we can say that the cause of the tension is the weapon such as guns, axes, knives. Those weapons narrow the view of the witnesses so that s/he can't see other details of the situation and this brings about the failure in the memory
