Limitations
1. Only focus on two factors
2. Short period of uses

본문내용
Our interest in the design of machines for human use runs the full gamut of
machine complexity – from the design of single instruments to the design of
complete systems of machines which must be operated with some degree of coordination. - A. Chapanis, W. Garner, & C. Morgan, 1949

THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS (Things we consider)
1. Action classification
 Errors of omission
 Errors of commission
• Timing errors - an action is performed at the wrong time
(e.g., when the MP3 files play too late after pushing the button)
• Sequence errors - step is performed out of the proper order
(e.g., when we want to contact the upper menu, the home menu suddenly appeared)
• Selection errors - an incorrect control is manipulated
(e.g., when we push the power-off button instead of pushing hold button)
• Quantitative errors - too little or too much manipulation of the control is made
(e.g., when the volume get higher than the volume that we want initially)
 We wanted to design our MP3 player to overcome this kind of errors.

2. Muscular strain
The increased use of electronic machines which have displays has brought about the development of a number of health concerns. Many people who work at a computer Video Display Terminal (VDT) report a high level of job related complaints and symptoms, including ocular discomfort, muscular strain and stress. The level of discomfort appears to increase with the amount of VDT use and related symptoms among VDT workers must be recognized as a growing health problem.

However, not only office workers who are suffering VDT, but also the juveniles can be the victim of these health concerns because they use their own small displays for watching video clips. Therefore, we should consider the muscular strain of the eyes when we make the small displays for the MP3 players.
 We are going to design the MP3 displays which make least muscular strain.

3. Four cardinal rules for displays
 Display should contain the only information for that job performance.
 We will make the buttons and the Icons on the displays as little as we can.
 Display information should be accurate so that it can help operator’s decisions and control actions.
 Display should present information in the most direct, simple, understandable, and usable form possible.
 We will make the icon of menu in very simple and distinguishable way.
 Display should present information in such a way that failure or malfunction of the display itself will be immediately obvious.
 Even though it is not a matter of malfunction, we think that it would be good if the signal of the low battery is easily detected. And for the case of some problems with the display function, it also will be helpful if A/S center’s phone number is presented on the back side of MP3 player.

4. Tactile displays
 Use of shape and texture for control coding
 Vibrotactile displays
• Optacon used for reading
• Displaying spatial information on back
 We will use the tactile displays for the volume button or power-off button since we often control these buttons keeping the player in our pocket. Therefore, tactile displays would be useful for controlling buttons in our pocket.

MERITS AND DEMERITS OF EACH MP3 PLAYER
1. ME (Button  Display )
 Merits
① Main Menu Display
- Main menu display consists of 8 rectangles, 2 X 4, which enable users to look every menu at a glance. And, this enhances the effectiveness of touch interface since users do not need to use stylus pen when choosing a menu.
② Appropriate size
- The size is appropriate even though this MP3 player has rectangular shape. It is quite small to carry around and easy to grip.
③ USB/Recharge cable
- It is very convenient that users just need a charger for cell phone to recharge this MP3 player.

 Demerits
① Display
 Scroll - The scroll is too small and leaned to the right. This makes it difficult when users are searching files on the list.
