docxI like the fact that he came to Mindelo with nothing and became a successful man although his business wasn’t ethical. However, unfortunately, his relationships with six women: Mari Chica, Cheznous, Graca, Dona, Eduarda and Adelin weren’t successful. It seems like he was so cool that he could go out with six different women at first glance. However, all those relationships couldn’t satisfy him eventually. The only meaningful relationship where he could’ve had Adelin as his first true love failed as well because she left him. He was at the high status in the society, yet he wasn’t very happy because he had to let go his first true love. So, he could never have a serious, sincere relationship that continues till marriage. In fact, he didn’t get married. And he died as a lonely man. The fact that he was a successful professionally, but he wasn’t satisfied with his life tells us that gaining fortune and being in a high class do not bring us the true happy life. One thing that could encourage him was that he had a daughter. Thank God he had a daughter even though he didn’t get married. If he didn’t have a child, his life would’ve been almost meaningless since he didn’t even die as a happy man.
I like the tone of story-telling in the movie. It’s narrative, realistic and factual with no exaggeration, but with a little bit of humor. I felt like as if I was listening to an interesting true story. Another thing about the style of the movie I like is that the characters are tracking down their memories through the cassette tape player. That was very classic.
